The reason is some of the sections of the website (propose an open stage talk, a workshop, etc...) are only accessible to registered participants to LIFT events.

A common misconception is that opening an account on liftconference.com registers you for the events. It actually works differently:

1) you open an account on liftconference and become part of the community which opens possibilities like posting on the community blog or make program suggestions.
2) for each event you want to attend - free or not - we ask you to register during a separate process.
